Landscape Architecture / Planning

Full design services are offered, from border planting schemes to the master planning of complete gardens and estates. Drawing on proven knowledge of ecologically based design principles, we ensure that all of our schemes, regardless of size, receive thesame exacting attention to detail, while always keeping in mind the clients desired intention for their garden or estate.

Landscape Management

Any scheme however well designed and installed will only be as good as the ongoing maintenance, therefore concern must be taken to ensure the initial finished appearance is continued throughout its life span. Although we do not offer weekly maintenance visits, we can provide quarterly, half yearly or annual maintenance programs to ensure that the finished project will continue in its designed intension long term

Landscape Construction/Project Management

Botanical offers a spectrum of installation services from softscape plant installations to the hardscape construction of walls, walkways, waterfeatures, patios, irrigation, garden lighting, woodwork and fencing, and overhead coverings to the sourcing of garden furnishings and ornamental containers. Botanical's commitment to quality is never deviated from, all of our projects are run with our own direct labour, using only highly vetted sub-contractors when necessary for specialist jobs.

Waterfeature Design/Construction

As an area of special inhouse expertise, water features provide an element of movement and sound together with a cooling effect offering much for the landscape. Botanical is able to provide an unparalleled service, from design and construction of pools, lakes and reservoirs, natural and formal design to fountains, waterfalls, streams and weirs, incorporating natural and artificial rockwork design andinstallation. We can also undertake aquatic planting design, ecosystem establishment and aquatic pest prevention and control; many of our projects are carried out on golf courses where the Waterfeatures are often used as both hazards and also for water storage

Quarterly Garden Managment Service Botanical quarterly maintenance service varies from season to season. Listed below are examples of services that can be performed quarterly. Botanical quarterly maintenance is a flexible service and will be adapted to suit each garden, the client's needs and desires, and seasonal factors, therefor not all services listed will be performed during each visit. Weed ControlBotanical makes every effort to utilise 'green' weed control methods including various manual means, soil cultivation and organic application of a corn gluten based pre-emergent herbicides. (We avoid using any non organic chemical herbicides whenever possible taking into consideration the safety of your family and pets)FertilizingAppropriate organic fertilizers will be applied to lawns, roses, azaleas & camellias, fruit trees (including citrus), and other landscape trees, shrubs and perennials, as neededPruning Lawn CareFertilizing 3-4 times a year is part of the quarterly maintenance: Annual lawn renewal is available as well as aerating, reseeding and lawn composting upon request only and will be billed seperatly on a time and material basisPruningQuarterly maintenance visits include removal of winter damage to small trees, vines, shrubs and perennials; light shearing or hand pruning of hedges & other landscape plants to shape & control growth; & seasonal rose and fruit tree pruning. (Major pruning jobs will need to be scheduled seperately)Irrigation SystemsChecking drip irrigation & sprinkler systems for leaks, breaks, clogged emitters, and broken sprinkler heads + scheduling of automatic timers. To insure proper irrigation throughout the year it is recommended that either the home owner or the regular maninenance team become familiar with the irrigation timer so that any necessary adjustments can be made as needed according to your soil type and plant requirements; if you require assistance, we will be glad to help. (Major repairs or additions would need to be scheduled seperately)General Clean-UpMajor emphasis in fall & winter - includes removal of leaves, branches & other debris ( if suitable this material may be added to client's compost pile); dead-heading of herbaceous material such as perennials, annuals, & bulbs; clean-up of vegetable gardens (if requested); & blowing or sweeping of all walkways, patios, decks, & driveways.In addition to the above, each season will have its own special emphasis, as follows:WinterRose & fruit tree pruning and dormant oil application for disease & insect preventionSpringA comprehensive check of irrigation systems + assessment of winter damage.SummerWeed and pest control measures, renewal dead-heading of annuals & perennials, & light pruning for growth control of shrubs, fruit trees & small trees.FallLawn renewal (if needed and at homeowners approval) + preparing the garden for winter (beginning of seasonal leaf clean-up).Although we emphasize that this is a quarterly maintenance service, Botanical is always available if a special need arises between quarterly visits.Depending on the scope of the project, we may need one to two weeks notice in advance to schedule any extra work. If at any time you should need a garden consult for a difficult problem or concern, don't hesitate to call.Botanical will try to solve your problem by phone, but if a visit to your property is required a consulting fee of $50/hour will be charged. (This fee would not apply to problems concerning items still under our installation warranty.) The ServiceBotanical Landscaping's maintenance service will be performed on a quarterly basis, with subsequent visits planned approximately every three months.Client Reports and NotificationClients will be notified in advance of scheduled services via email and kindly ask that a confirmation email of the scheduled service date is recieved from the client. Botanical respectfully request 24 hour notification via email or phone call of cancelation of the service dateQuarterly maintenance service is billed on a time plus materials basis.The current labor charge is $38.00 per man hour for landscape technicians and $45.00 per man hour for foreman or supervisors.Time-LineQuarterly maintenance visits timing will depend on the size and condition of the garden, the season of the year, and the client's wishes.A minimum time of six (6) man hours will be scheduled for each visit, however the actual time needed to complete the work for any one garden may be significantly more.In addition, there will be fees assessed for materials used. Materials will include, but not be limited to, such items as: organic fertilizers, compost for top-dressing, simple irrigation repair parts, and organic pest control supplies.Service Generated Garden WasteUnless the lient specifies otherwise, Botanical will dispose of all yard waste generated by this service.The minimum charge for removal of yard waste will be $35. The $35 fee will apply to single tarps of yard waste (1 cubic yard or less) removed from client's garden by the maintenance crew. If the amount of waste generated requires an extra truck, the hauling and dump fees incurred for the disposal of yard waste will increase to $60 for the first cubic yard with additional yards billed at $35/cubic yard.

Installation Outline

The Construction Phase

Upon Completion of the design stage, a detailed estimate of construction costs is prepared and presented along with the agreed design for client approval. At this time all foreseeable costs are considered so that Budgets can be set and adhered to. Occasionally when no design is required, estiamtes can be arrived at quickly, based on material choices.Once budgets are agreed upon, an experienced and qualified team, led by Kristian Laws, Botanical's principle landscape architect and founder, will implement the proposed design. During the construction phase, clients will benefit from Botanical's broad structural knowledge and horticultural background, along with the very personal and detail oriented service we have become known for. During all stages of installation, clients will be made aware of progress with regular updates, and any concerns will always be addressed immediatly. As we are only guest in your home, Botanical believes very strongly in treating your property with the respect that it deserves, ensuring a tidy site and no radios on site

Notable Projects We have completed projects throughout the world, examples of some of our more notable contracts are detailed below Virginia Robinson Gardens - Beverly Hills, USA The redesign and project management of the refurbishment of the water feature within the oldest and largest private garden in Beverly Hills, California. All our works had to be carried out in line with the gardens historical records. Virgin Records - London, UK We were commissioned to design and install water cleaning and visual improvements to a canal outside the Virgin Record Headquarters in London. We also provided major assistance to beautify all external areas in readiness for a major record launch. Red Sea Resort - Eilat, Israel The design of a rock waterscape within a hotel complex in Eilat; our brief included the design and building of artificial and natural rock cascades and pools. The Wisley Golf Club - Surrey, UK The design and installation of water features and landscaping within one of the Europe’s most prestigious golf clubs. The majority of the works had to be carried out at night while the club was closed, to allow the club to remain fully open for play. Mill Gardens - Le Mans, France The design, construction and refurbishment of a 300-year old property, including structural works and the drilling of water wells, to re-routing of streams and the construction of a lake and woodlands. Tosu Garden - South Japan The design of a 54-acre garden, the site being a disused quarry built into an arid rock hillside provided a demanding challenge. The clients’ brief was to create a lush peaceful environment that would be open to the public within 1 year from the start of construction. Desert Garden Estates - Palm Springs, USA The design of all external areas of a prestigious home development project within the desert city. The work included incorporation of water displays throughout and shade creating planting. The Harbor Club - London, UK The design and construction of the Princess Diana Memorial fountain, within the grounds of the London Health club, frequented by Her Royal Highness the Princess of Wales.Hit and Run Music - Mr & Mrs P collins, Sussex, UKThe design and build of the largest private landscaping theme of its time within the UK. The total project coverd in excess of 60 acres of gardens and 110 acres of woods and paddocks, and included the construction of a 3 acre geomembrane lined lake.
